can't see low res links in Illy CS6

We're just starting to experiment with Illy CS6 and have run into a bit of a roadblock. We normally impose low res files on an Illy template that are linked to high-res Nexus-generated OPPO files. Up to CS5, we can "see" these low-res (LR) files by checking the "Use Low Resolution Proxy for linked eps" under the file handling preference in Illy. I've done that in CS6 but can't see the low res preview like we could in CS5 and previous versions. I've attached a screenshot of the pref pane (left), CS5 preview (middle) and CS6 preview (right). Any ideas on how to solve the preview issue would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried turning on overprint preview?
It's under the view menu.

No when you are using low res placer files, you can't have overprint preview on. In CS2 - CS6 you get a result like the screenshot. Adobe "expert" had me dump the prefs, run all available updates, but still the same result.

Ok, I've done a really simple 1 up file with a placed LR (low res) linked file. The Illy file is saved as CS5. If you open it in CS5 you should be able to see the preview of the Linked LR file. You do have to have the Low Res Proxy... checked on in Illy's File Handling preference pane (see my first post) to see the preview. Now try the same thing in CS6 with the same preference turned on and you can't see the preview - just a blank picture box.

Is the link broken? Only on 5.5 here but when I open an .idml and the links are broken, I get an image that looks like that. What kind of file is the linked file? Is it vector or raster? Also, is it something stupid like object level display?:

I can't even get the EPS to place in Illy CS 5.5.

Well, we couldn't find a quick answer in Illustrator, so we started looking at the preview settings in Nexus in the "Make eps link" module. Our previous setting for the eps Preview was set on Macintosh 72 dpi (left side of screener). That works for Illy CS2-CS5, but not Illy CS6. We tried changing the setting to Windows 72 dpi (right side of screener), and voila, preview works in Illy CS6. We've placed links in Illy CS5 with the new setting and the preview works well in that too. Could it be that Adobe wrote CS6 for Windows and then adapted it for Mac, instead of the reverse?

Back when we were using Nexus we had to use Windows preview instead of Mac to get the low res preview to show in Preps too. And Preps was on a Mac. Go figure....

How about my bartender instead. I'd rather have a pool girl, if there is such a thing....
