Adobe Acrobat / Re: Update to Acrobat caused problems
February 01, 2024, 01:20:12 PM
Upgrade, update - getting to be dirty words. If Adobe and a few other companies spent half the time making sure their update or upgrade worked with common software that is usually used with them as the poor users spend trying to just do their job after the upgrade, there would be a lot less hairpulling.

Nobody is smart enough to ask the printer how they want art or data supplied, are they? I never had the pleasure of working for a place that charged extra for the extra work to straighten crap out, but I bet the customers would have howled if they were billed for what it actually costs for their laziness.

I have had to spend over four hours on a tee shirt design, first trying to get it so that it could be delineated in Illustrator, then cutting it down from six colors to three because they didn't want to pay for six.

It's always fun trying to decide what color to make people's faces when your only choices are red, green and white. Boy, I was tempted....

The only ones I've had are with Adobe Reader. They have all kinds of tools but whenever you click on one they tell you to subscribe to the full version. How about just don't show me anything I can't use? I know I can't do much with Reader but I'd like to find out what its capabilities are, if any.

You're missing a nice, normal world that is not ruled by Adobe.

If the auto update doesn't screw up something on the computer itself, it will definitely make it incompatible with some other thing you're connected to, like a printer.

These days it's dangerous to have automatic updates for practically anything.

No, I don't have a dog, but thanks for the tips. Actually, since I've waited this long to finally find one, even though I do see deer at least once a year in my yard, I'm going to think of some way to hang it. It's a 7-point, while the one that holds keys is a 3-point.

Prepress News / Somebody finally said No to Adobe

This article explains how Adobe was prevented from buying "its most promising new rival in decades." Awwwww. And also had to cough up $1 billion just for giving up. Double awwwww.

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2023/12/adobe-gives-up-on-20-billion-acquisition-of-figma/

Somewhere in the article it also mentions that Amazon wanted to buy iRobot. Whaaaa?

Anyway, let's all have a few tears in our eyes for Adobe. From laughter.

I guess one thing is trying to decide if the guy who posted the video knew what he was doing to begin with. I watched some videos of people replacing some rot on the bottom of their outer door jamb and they all looked fairly similar, so I had a little confidence. I replaced a 2 ft. section with something made of poly so it won't rot again. I'm not handy with carpentry and I didn't have the best tools for the job, but it sure beats paying somebody else to do it.

On the other hand, I finally found a deer antler in my yard after almost 30 years here, and wanted to know what to use, if anything to preserve it. Every video I saw said something different. I just took a guess and used Murphy's Oil Soap. Seemed to do well. I now have it attached to a slice of cedar tree I had and hung it for a key rack. Then I found an even bigger antler and still don't know what I'm going to do with that.
