We found a part timer guy... seems to be working ok so far.

Saw a prepress job being advertised. (company had advertised for the job about a month ago but seem to be looking again).

Pay: $15 to $33 dollars an hour.... what are they trying to say? Typo? I might think about applying but they specifically want "Heidelberg Prinect software" experience.

Is "Heidelberg Prinect software" not just a workflow like Apogee or Navigator? Or is it something very complicated that would require years of experience?
Prinect is just their version of workflow software. Way back in the mists of time it was a partner with Prinergy.

We used to do these the same as others: offset the shell portion, digitally imprint the variable and then send it out for someone else to apply the coating.
The one thing we had to do was not print a varnish where the scratch adheres.

20 minutes if I drive, 45 if I take the train now.
Used to drive both ways at my previous job, 45-60 each way.
Found it to be really irritating as it was all heavy traffic.
I made the same drive in once on a Saturday morning in 21 minutes.
Started taking the train, same amount of time to commute, way less stress!
Except of course when the weathers sucks and you are walking to and from the train station....

Adobe InDesign / Re: Text moves when box is duped
October 10, 2018, 11:14:11 AM
We used to have a problem with a customer setting their own baseline grid.
Pasted text boxes would have the text move to align to the grid.
Its under text frame options and Custom Baseline Grid.

Digital Printing / Re: iGen4->iGen5 Problems

Talked to one of previous iGen operators. He said there are multiple ways to fix that problem, but all the fixes he had are through Freeflow.

We had a similar problem on a relatively new iGen4 Diamond running Freeflow.
There was a setting to help eliminate that, but on plain small serif text it looked like the
type was being choked.
I will ask the machine operator if there was a fix for that.
We are all scattered to the wind as the shop basically shutdown so it might take a day.

CTP - CTF / Re: New Platesetter System Advice
September 25, 2015, 02:17:24 PM
No small imagesetter advice here either. We used to run plates for several presses here that were too small for our Magnus 800.
We just laid them out so we could cut them down manually. Marked up the cutter board in the plate room and it worked great.

Had one of those a while ago. Applied for this job over a year ago, interviewed and never heard from them. Over a year later they call me, tell me they lost the money for the position, and now have it back. Great, so we sit down and talk, I tell them what I want. They come back two weeks later with an offer 2$ an hour less than I make with two weeks holidays. I have 4 now. Tried to negotiate but no wiggle room, wtf? this is production art for a fairly large drug company, not some mom and pop shop. I said thanks but no thanks, I don't entirely hate where I am so why would I move?

What to do to get out of prepress... Been wondering about that myself. I have a horticultural thing going on the side but that world really doesn't pay well so its a tough sell to quit for a job that pays half the money.
One of my former coworkers got in as a Forensic Video Analyst working for the cops. She digitizes all sorts of surveillance video. Apparently they look more for people that will come across as "trustworthy" in court than technical geniuses.
One guy I used to work with deals cards for a casino, crappy hours at first and not the best pay but it's a growth industry!
Couple of people are freelancers, seems like the big thing there is to get a couple of big consistent clients. The one guy gets all sorts of stuff through us (we layed him off) and has a couple of Hospital/Health Authority connections. The hospital form thing is boring as crap but it is regular work.
A buddy of mine started his own business printing novelty bumper stickers, fridge magnets, buttons etc. He bought a diecutting plotter and a button making machine. He does well but works waaaay harder than most everyone I know.
My wife does Construction Safety and teaches the Construction Safety Officer course at the local college. 2 weeks course gets you a job that starts at 25$ an hour.
Couple of former coworkers got on with our Manufacturers/Suppliers, one in sales the other on the tech side.
Another guy I used to work with did his 6 month HVAC apprenticeship part time at night and then quit when he got a job. Now he makes 10$ an hour more than anyone else here and this place pays pretty good wages.
Some ideas from my experience, hope that helps.

Used to work for a small dept. store chain, they had a brand of coffee called Chock-full-of Nuts, apparently nut flavoured. One flyer got printed with "Cock-full-of Nuts".

We leave ours on.
Back about 20 years ago we had a Tektronix that ran solid ink. Someone was turning it off every night during the first month, turns out it would dump the loaded wax ink every power up. The production manager hit the roof when they saw the $ 800 ink bill. It only got shut down if there was a power outage after that!

We will have to sit down over a few drinks and maybe I can demonstrate the difference!

Quote from: Rabid on August 15, 2012, 12:49:29 PMYes, I have been stupidly drunk in bars in Minneapolis in my youth. :cold1:

Just out of curiosity, what's the difference between 'stupidly drunk' and 'drunk?' Is there one?

The first one involves a certain level of control, the second is taking being irresponsible and brain-dead in a foreign country to another level.

Anyone have experience with Xitron Navigator workflow and if so what imposition software do you use?
