We use process-less plates, so they are still light sensitive after being imaged. Even though we haven't had any real probelms, we've been trying to hold off on making plates until a day or two before they are going to run. I've seen plates that look like they have a lot of haze around the edges, and even well into the sheet that still printed fine.

My biggest issue is doing math off the top of my head (carry the one, add bleeds, etc...) then when I step it it's not where I expected it to be... Easier to just hit delete and try again than to have to select first - especially if I just stepped multiple elements that aren't grouped.
I used to have a great spec sheet I wrote up myself at a former shop. It was never used - sales slime refused to give it to any clients.
Never bothered here, we go through cycles where a number of jobs have issues and bossman gets irate and demands we do something to ensure a quality product – then when we try to explain that we need to set standards for what we'll accept we get a big HELL NO! We've always taken whatever clients want to give us, we're not going to slam the door on them now!
Funny story from a couple weeks ago, I was on vacation in SoCal when a client called and need her job printed ASAP. I called the shop I work for here and told them to deal with her direct and get everything done for her...
I forgot that the quote I gave her was based on a price another shop had given me. Needless to say, I made no $$ on that one and the owner was not too happy with me. At least they were aware of my home business from before I was re-hired, so I didn't get fired again or anything. For future reference, if you send a job to your employer, make sure that it's where you got the quote from and where you meant to send it...
I think I need to start charging Jalan's hourly rate though.
We create a "Layout" folder for all the extra files Dynastrip creates so they're not loose all over the job folder. I don't know what they all are, but you'd think with all that extra crap, it would remember the print size and destination for that particular job. I still find myself printing to wrong sizes and into whatever the last job folder was fairly often.
BTW Angst, my co-worker Michael upgraded his system to 10.4 and started having a ton of the flaky errors we talked about. We've upgraded to version 5 which seems to be a little more stable. I'll keep ya updated.
$21/hour for the last 2 years. The only time I seem to get any kind of raise is when I get laid off or fired - then hired back (after they realize they really did need me after all). I feel underpaid now thanks to this thread as well - but on the bright side, I'm way overdue for a layoff...
