We use Fiery XF...

This guy knows how to handle his dongle.

We do too, but protect your dongle. They charge about 250 bucks for a new one.

Always protect your dongle!
And make certain to get the male end properly inserted into the female end. You've got a 50-50 shot of getting in the hole right the first time. If there's not a good connection, your hardware could have a software issue. Nobody wants a dangling dongle; it can be an embarrassing problem.

Yeah it was EFI Color. So I should just get the newest version?

Joe, we contemplated going 100% soft (giggity) but too risky for us.

General Prepress / Proofer RIP replacment... whatcha got!
December 21, 2020, 10:07:22 AM
So our EFI RIP finally died and EFI says its not supported anymore. Great. Let's spend more money on a simple program that allows us to append a color profile to output.

So what is everyone using out there with their proofers? We have an Epson P9000.

Hey all. Looking for what you all are using for an online storefront solution. We tried EFI DSF but never worked as advertised with integration into ePace. Stopped paying "maintenance" years back so now looking for a different option that actually WORKS and is not crazy overpriced. Don't need it to integrate with ePace. Just produce a job ticket and we will enter into ePace. Not looking for a B2C solution. Just B2B.

Quote from: frailer on January 04, 2017, 10:18:08 PMInteresting. When we upgrade to processless thermal plates there'll be no more 'trained eye' duct settings..it'll all be via the file software to set the ducts. I know f/all about it, but I *think* the data will come out of Black Magic.
A genuine question; I gather this is a different way of achieving the settings, but are you scanning the proofs to get there?

All edumacational for me.

Oh, and how many times have you heard similar stories? Another reason why, in the absence of the management will to drag us forward, we are on the same version of XMF, and 10.6.8 at the client end. I don't want to touch a thing.
I may actually be dead by the time they upgrade.  No, am not joking. Am in that age bracket.... (gawd, I'm a ball o' fun today, aren't I?     )

Not sure what you mean by scanning the proof. We have to scan the press sheet to ensure the color is correct. The proofs aren't used for this.

Oh I am. On 4 so far. If they make it right I will let you know.

I just want to share a story with you all because if blows my mind that a company in this industry doesn't care to lose a customer...

2 months ago after receiving the scanner head back from X-rite after re-certification I asked their support team to dial into the machine to check some settings. At this point the X-rite software and the feedback program that send the data back to the press were both working fine. He was just checking on the settings in the X-rite program.

While dialed in he noticed we are on an older version of Intellitrax so he uninstalled the version that was on there and went to install a newer version. The newer version wouldn't install correctly so he went to re-install the older version again and the older, original version, wouldn't load back on. So now the computer that runs the scanner software AND the feedback integration to the press is a boat anchor. Naturally one would think the person that broken it should fix it, right? WRONG...

So at this point I have no scanner software and therefore no closed loop, spending more to run jobs and X-rite doesn't care. During the next 3 weeks and many emails back and forth with X-rite they tell me they are not responsible for used presses and any software connect to it. WHAT??? They broke it!! So now I have to come out of my pocket to have my press dealer send a technician to troubleshoot a problem that X-rite caused. Incredible.

So I just wanted to warn anyone out there that if you are looking at a X-rite closed loop system be warned. They don't stand behind their work. They don't care about you. It's just another one of these large corporations that don't care about the one person.

General Prepress / Lithotel anyone??
January 15, 2015, 11:42:45 AM
Do any of you guys use LithoTel Closed Loop software on your presses? We have been using it since 2000 and it's worked great. But the software is starting to act flakey and I was going to try to reload it and found out LithoTel closed shop! So I have no one to help me reload the software which makes me a bit nervous.

Secondly, if you all are using a different solution, what is it and do you like it and how much $$?

General Prepress / Re: What Email Clients do you use?
August 07, 2014, 02:35:34 PM
Quote from: DigiCorn on August 07, 2014, 02:23:33 PMI have every email since January of 2008.

Back when we used to archive work to tape, one of the tapes broke. We lost about 200 jobs. Some of them have come back for reprint. In some cases, thanks to those old emails, I have the attached art files.

In your inbox though right? Goldmine is cool in that you can file an email to someones history and you can look at that particular contact and see all the emails anyone in the building has sent to this person.

Outlook archives? I thought you just worked in your inbox and when you were done with an email you had to delete it? How does it archive the emails?

But you don't get any archived emails in Mail or Outlook. How do you look back at something you said in a previous email to CYA?

General Prepress / What Email Clients do you use?
August 07, 2014, 12:31:59 PM
So we use FrontRange Goldmine for our CRM. Been getting tired of their lack of response on feature requests and high "maintenance" cost. Plus Goldmine has all these other features we don't even touch!

What do you guys use? We need something that keeps a database of emails sent. So we can look through the history of a contact and see old emails. Office 365 doesn't appear to show email history. And I can't get Google Apps to even let me test it! So don't know if they keep a database or not.

Random Technology / Re: Network Switch to blame?

Ya know now that I'm thinking about it I am connecting with the name on the MACs. But I am doing to IP on the PCs.

I think I'm going to try to setup a DNS/DHCP server. Matt sent me some advice and when I get some free time I'm going to poke around with it.
