Title: Folding
Post by: Tracy on July 03, 2014, 09:52:56 AM
Is there a minimum gap for a roll fold?
I have a 4 panel roll fold and the last panel is about a 1/4" shorter than the previous
Is this ok or does it need to be a smaller gap for the folder?

Hey T, we go -1/16" per panel.
so an example for a 4" 4panel would be 3 7/8 - 3 15/16 - 4 - 4    for the outside, flop for inside (unless reverse-roll-fold)

so your 1/4" compensation is 1/8" more than ideal, but may be ok for the job

Do you tell your customers to fix the folds? or do you fix it yourself?

oh and thanks!

We often fix it ourselves, even if it's a pdf, we use InDesign to assemble as 3-4 separate graphics per side and move the panel art 1/2 of the shortened amount (which re-centers it)

Sheet sizes are different in Yoorp.  For roll fold we use 3mm cos it works out well with the sheet (3 panels, 100+100+97=297mm), and that is roughly 1/8th of an inch.  4 panels and more you have to improvise but I wouldn't go smaller than 2mm (about 1/12th Inch)
