Digital Printing / Ricoh 901 with Fiery
November 22, 2013, 03:30:22 PM
I have a an eight page job that staple and requires a single unstapled page as page 9.
On my Xerox 260 i could tell it chapter start 9 and it would print out 100 no pause.

both are using a Fiery front end.

My new Ricoh is pausing between the stapled sheets and the page 9 insert.

Anyone else have this issue. Maybe a fix?

I am so clueless, but how do you create a script that could delete a layer then convert a spot color to Black. Any suggestions as to a program that might accomplish this with a simple GUI.

thanks

I have been playing prepress and no plans on leaving current job. But... a lot of the time i see anything to do with prepress jobs, they are looking for a packaging prepress person. What is the challenge of a packaging prepress person vs. your standard prepress operator.

thanks

I am using CS5. I layout business cards on a regular basis. I have templates so just standard info name phone numbers and such. in the past i would
copy name
do a save as
create a new folder with job number then paste name

I can not paste name now unless i hit the edit drop down. I can use short cut command v but i must first hit edit.
I then select all text in folder name and paste into name of file but again i can not use short cut unless i hit edit drop down then the command a
I also can't copy the text at this stage unless i again hit edit then the short cut command c.

Anyone else experiencing this?

CTP - CTF / Momentum/ Rampage rip
March 17, 2009, 07:22:36 AM
Current press running a 50% screen about 82% to 84%. Current prepress guy feels 3% of true lin is ok. I might agree if it was 1.5 over 50 or 1.5% bellow but it is 3% above. Now if all was really good and I was linear. And I was printing a 50% at the 82% to 84% gain and wanted to bring down to 72%. Would i just put a tonal curve in that was 10% to 12% pulled down and that would fix it for me? My goal is to get it to the following
K=72%
CMY=68%

Manager and sales rep have pressman and myself running inks well bellow density readings and colors are getting contaminated because manger wants it to be lighter. I keep explaining this but they say like everyone here has said. "We don't have the time." If this is the solution I plan on just doing it and take the chance. I hate not running density to specification.

CTP - CTF / DI Rip for Presstek plate maker
August 29, 2008, 11:01:14 AM
Not sure if they have a downloadable manual for the DI Rip so I can figure it out so I can explaing to Prepress at part time job. They run linerar and everything is printing muddy when I run to spec density. I am looking at the Presstek site but if someone has an easy walk through that would be great. I want to apply a dot gain reduction curve.

I wish I had more info like version and stuf but I am researching on the sly so I can talk with an understanding of the system

Hey

I am working partime running a GTO 4color press. From what i am being told they run lin plates. Dot gain is huge and they have me ruining ink density to match the proof and in all cases i am running bellow by as much as .40 on my KCM. My question is how do I approach prepress and askthem if it is possible to make a dot gain curve so I can run to density. Not sure how many prepress folk know how painful it is to run a job with no ink and the water keeps overpowering and washing color out. I need a diplomatic way to discuss. General I go at it the wrong way and i want to be on good terms with prepress.

Suggestions welcome

Thanks

General Prepress / Di Press or Igen??
June 13, 2008, 07:32:51 AM
OK. My printshop closed as I have stated. Dilemma time. I want to insure I still exist in next year so I want to get the best equipment I can if they are serious about keeping the POD area up and running. My Boss is looking at an Igen. I see they are great and have produced good work but I have a click charge and a lease and the big ball of wax if I get one. I see a Igen as a machine to create variable data projects to help justify the cost. Short run sporadic work will not help me generate work. (I think) So I am trying top convince my manager that instead of a huge Igen investment that I get a Presstech Di 52. Reasoning is I could get it running and keep work in-house that I am now going to be outsourcing with print vendors. I see this as a win win for me and hope I can build again the printshop they just closed down.

What say you, that have this equipment? The work I would be farming out because of big lay off are invite packages and mailers of 2000 to 5000 a piece. other work I would either print on my docutech on shells I might be able to print on press for same or less.

I need to know if how I am thinking is a good idea or if I should just not bother.

My hopes are when they sell all the equipment on the floor that they have enough so I could buy the Di.

Please help me keep my shop...

CTP - CTF / OUtsoucing print But....
May 31, 2008, 12:22:35 AM
Bossman wants to sell plates to the print vendor. Have a hard time believing anyone is going to take plates I make to print from. He wants to control as much of the cost as possible. I am wondering if we find a vendor that is willing to take on our outsourced work. What are the odds I can send them impositioned TiffB files for out put to their platemaker. Yes I would have to finger print but if I could controll the impo and the paper I would be paying for Print and Bindery. Do any of you believe I would be able to pull this off with a commercial printer.

I want the price to be competitive but I also want to show how much more (I am hoping) it is going to cost oursourcing work so I MIGHT be able to get them to rethink the layoff. I have lots of these pipe dreams. If you need more info please tell me. I need info to give boss.

Hey

Looking to improve quality and reduce cost. Who isn't really trying? What brands of papers are you using on your Epsons (I have a 9800). I am looking for least expensive paper for in house and the occasional outside mounted posters. I also do banners on vinyl but have seen jobs going out on clothe if you have any suggestions on those it would be great.

thanks

Adobe InDesign / Assign Screen Angles
April 23, 2008, 09:20:19 AM
Are we able to assign screen angles in Indesign to spot colors? I am at a press right now and can't sit and look it up in the help files. Anyone with a quick answer?

hate to say this but Quark had the feature and worked well with our Delta rip. I know I can assign the spot to magenta and get teh correct screening but hoped I could assign in hte layout program.

CTP - CTF / Dot gain
April 08, 2008, 06:06:02 AM
ok  If I open a Photshop file and make a
25% SCREEN
50% SCREEN
75% SCREEN

and then open curves and bumped the 50% up to 70% imitating a 20% dot gain. Would the 25% and 75% reading be the gain the 2 measurements should be?

Hey

I have Acrobat 6 and was wondering if I can out put just 2 spot of a cymk 2 spot color job. I need to send to a ducutech to imprint the spot that I print on a shell that has the cymk already printed.

On another not I have seen a PDF to Indesign plug in advertised or talked about. any one use it and does it transfer to indesign well. quark to indesign works ok by lots of reflow box shapes changeing.

thanks
