Interestingly, we got a similar one last week. Flyer page created in PhSh>>PhSh PDF supplied. But, wait for it. Someone, somehow, had sat a lower case 'g' over (presumably), an unwanted upper-case 'G'. So, when it rendered an uneditable-for-colour box, with the reverse 'g'...very different 4 col Black, of course.
To cut out the boring detail, I opened the Exported from Indy PDF in PhSh, (most of it was just an image anyway), set it to 600ppi on the way in; re-Place in Indy to fix the inevitable other problems. etc. etc... 
Sometimes (fully) rasterising a piece of crap like that is satisfying. After all, they may as well have done it before they sent it.    :sarcasm:
