Artwork Systems / Mac OS 10.5 Leopard
October 25, 2007, 10:38:07 AM
Just got this email from support. Thanks for the heads up support team.

QuoteDear Valued Customer,

Esko Artwork would like to inform you that Apple will release Mac OS 10.5 Leopard this Friday 10/26/07. Esko Artwork had done some preliminary test using this version of Mac OS 10.5 and found that there are some incompatible issues with this version of Mac OS 10.5 and latest version of AWS products. Esko Artwork is currently addressing these issues and we should have them fix in the next release.

Here is a list on what we had founded from our preliminary test done using the latest AWS products and Mac OS 10.5. Please notes that these are test that were done in our environment and may not yield the same result in your environment.

- ArtPro on 10.5
==> ArtPro crash while closing the program (will be solved in 8.6 rev2)

- Nexus on 10.5
==> OK

- NexusManager on 10.5
==> OK

- Odystar on 10.5
==> OK

- Odystar Inspector on 10.5
==> New Canvas, archive does not work

- Neo 1.1.6 on 10.5
==> OK

- Neo 1.2 on 10.5
==> NDS configuration does not work

- inPDF on 10.5
==> inPDf installer ends up with a failure (it doesn't write plug-in into the plug-ins folder of Illustrator)
==> Work around for this: copy those plug-ins manually placed it in the plug-ins folder of Illustrator

- WebWay 5 on 10.5
==> AP Viewer crashes during startup and other components crash on quit

- DotSpy 3.0 on 10.5
==> OK

Esko Artwork ask that you would hold off on doing the OS 10.5 upgrade for now if you could but if you have to buy a new Mac and it come with 10.5 then proceed and let us know if you found any incompatible issues. We will continues to do more testing and fix incompatible issues as we discovered them just like we did when Tiger and or Panther OS came out.

Regards,

Artwork Systems / Paragon Screening

I believe this is the Nexus version of stochastic screening, right? Anyone using this on a web press? Tips, tricks, pitfalls on making plates...running on press would be appreciated. Can you use a normal plate densitometer for your readings?

Tips & Tricks / Great little app...
October 04, 2007, 12:42:46 AM
Okay, I've been looking for a way to get tabbed finder windows so I only need to have one window open but many tabs of different locations. I found it in an application called Pathfinder. It's not free but it does a lot of stuff for $35 US. The tabbed windows are worth that price for me. I'm running the 15 day free trial right now but I think I may need to buy this little gem. See what you think:

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Epson 7000 woes
September 20, 2007, 01:28:38 AM
Epson Stylus Pro 7000 prints random characters instead of images. It's got a lot of miles on it but we still like doing our glossy contract proofs on it. Is there any hope without spending more on it than it's worth? Any ideas on the cause of it?

I'm used to using a plugin for Photoshop called Aurelon CoCo. It's a color correction plugin that I don't think I could live without. http://www.aurelon.com/EN/html/nf_products.htm It's kind of pricey though at € 195,00 per copy which I think is close to $300 US dollars. Well today I found out about another one called Color Mechanic Pro v 2.0 http://www.dl-c.com/content/view/16/30/. Basically it does about the same thing but it's only $59.95 per copy for Mac or PC version. I've downloded the demo. It's crippled so you can't save your changes but it's good for testing purposes. You can't beat it for that price. If you do a lot of color corrections I'd definitely recommend either of these.
