I have a noob designer and he is working in Illustrator 5 on PC making architectural drawings. The drawing is done to size and has a .7 (point 7) stroke. In INDD he places the item and saves using a PDF preset I built so I get all the goods.

My spidey senses is reminding me about strokes being reduced proportionally from long ago. In INDD this illustration is at 30% so the question is what happened to that warning window I remember asking me if I wanted to scale lines when it was being saved? Will the .7 be scaled to 30% of .7? It looks good in the trial PDF but trying to be cautious before it goes live.

Does this box in the PDF preset have any bearing?

I have an opportunity to sell flexo plates into a territory for a prepress shop and I know almost zip about them. Hey happy prepressers. I have a corporate client using 7666c "freely" in a file printing CMYK and need clarification before stepping onto a landmine.
I have CS5 only they have 6. Can anyone with CS6 tell me the CMYK values you see for PMS 7666C.
This way I can make sure the "correct" values will be used. I have no plans to upgrade since all files are coming as PDFs now. Just protecting the behind so to speak.

I visited the sucker er vendor that now owns my old (sold 2003)  Accuset 1000 and Starmax computer loaded up w/ Viper Rip. Saw my previous workstation (with the built in Jaz drive) still running and I was amazed the whole package is still running. Built like a brick S house for sure.

Well another doosie from another "client". I have a screen capture of Urdu text that I need to reverse to white. It is a Winbloze screen capture and very low res. Blowing it up it is pixelating to the max. Anyone that can suggest how to hold the characters and not lose it? Gently sharpening fattens it and the M Wand gives stair steps. Ideally I need to get the type white for a k/o in a dark area.

Colour me toast. Translation was not from NAmerica. I think this method is FUBAR'd.

OK going cuckoo. I am working on this web logo built in CS5 Mac Illy using a round cornered rectangle. When saved as PNG (high resolution) no issues but when saved as JPG (high res) round corners are showing white corners. The client insists on a JPG and I cannot find a solution having tried clipping paths, work paths, voodoo and Google.
From my googling there is no solution that I gleaned from the M Soft web site. I feel dirty.

Giving a heads  up. My iMac updated to FF10 then I applied the 10.7.3 Combo update after. FF10 very jerky almost like it is doing something in the background. A reinstall of a fresh downloaded FF10 has make it run smoother.

I have an older 133 line CMYK color selector book that has over 32,000 combinations to choose from. Can or does anyone have any input as to how this ancient (10 years old plus) would relate to the new level of 300 plus line screen on press? I am trying to match a PMS color and wonder if the book is useless or is it still valid as a color selector. I do have the PMS to CMYK selector but again it is of the same vintage. We all have aged gratefully thank you.

The color according to the PMS book I have, the color is around 280/287/ Reflex and the material is a plastic sign. We are heading to a 4c color brochure and the sign is being color corrected. Close it is but I am just curious about the CMYK book and it's relevance to today's presses. From the experience I have seen, the colors are printing darker these days. I have CS5 on a iMac.

I have a client looking for a few 4/4 BC with spot UV on both sides. All the web hits show many in the USA. Anyone have a recommendation for a trade supplier that is actually the manufacturer?

Just installed Firefox 4 Beta and it sure is snappy. Hopefully nothing bad happens <puts tinfoil hat and grounds self>. Nice clean interface - nothing radical but "crisp" looking tabs without the tab shape on top.

OK we all have been here before - different CMYK from different Adobe apps. I am using CS5 and just got bit by a Pantone Reflex Blue to CMYK conversion. Last occurrence (printed) was using CS3 then I upgraded software and of course the HD failed. Now CS5, SLeopard.

Logo was made in Illy years ago using Pantone and run litho previous. I just ran the BCs through an HP Indigo that uses Prinergy for layout feeding into the HP RIP. Pantone to CMYK is being done in Prinergy. The obvious solution is to convert the logos and type to Process from Pantone. All 4c BCs are spot on.

I poked around for a solution and found an inconsistency - nothing new here for CS5 maybe?

Photoshop colour looks better on iMac - not so washed out as did the run of BCs. Bridge is set as NA Prepress 2.

$64,000 question - which picker is giving the correct conversion? My CMYK to Process book is WAY out of date (1992).

I did the duty - upgraded to 10.6.6. No issues work wise ....yet.

However logging into this forum is causing me to re-login every time which is kinda pissing me off. I just replied to a post and keyed for about 3-5 minutes and the site timed me out. I have a code for a UPC that is 13 digits. Anyone have a plugin that can do this for me. All of the online freebies only think 12 digits. Code is 7 312040217502. It is a European product we all can drink. Do you think I can use the attached gif, place it and go? It is 45kb and sized 444x317 and yes it is reversed cause the bottle is reverse printed. Smarta**es printed the code on a clear glass bottle and now have to sticker it to get contrast.

If anyone gets this notice to upgrade V8.2.3 to 8.2.4 - do not allow it. It has a bug and stops CS3 usage of Acrobat. I surfed and others suggested using Time Machine to restore 8.2.3 and it is now working.

They also suggested turning OFF updates until the fix is found.

I mentioned to a friend that you could install W7 on a Mac laptop and they were surprised. They are considering a higher end laptop so the 18 year old can plan online games and the choices are in the $1100 range for an Asus or HP with an adequate video card.

Does anyone have a W7 installed under Boot Camp on their MacPro 15 inch (2009 or later) and use it to game? The dollar spread for the HP to MacPro (Apple refurbished) is only $400. Is it a worthwhile effort to convince them to go the extra $400 as the son is heading to college in the Fall and will need a laptop.

Any techs out there that can help. I have a W2000 Server running an server version Athlon MP processor and need to tweak the BIOS to accept a USB keyboard. The box is a 9 year old machine using standard PS2 connectors (keyboard and mouse) and I cannot for the life of me get into the BIOS at startup. I am beginning to wonder if the old Tech has set it up with a secret key code as no POST shows.

My fallback is to crack the box and install a USB card but the MOBO has 2 USB slots but neither are powered right now. The PS2 keyboard connector is getting real flakey so I have to do something.

This one sounds easy and obvious but after a quick glance maybe not.

We have a Konica and I am printing a PDF that has a 5th colour Pantone dieline set to overprint. When trying to print to the machine the driver does not give an option other than composite. We can see the 5th colour but cannot figure a way to turn off that 5th colour. Easy to fix in Illy or Pitstop but does anyone know of a way within INDD?
