Looking like a case of Edit>Save As> rename. Delete old one. Some extra clicks ... but a workaround.

Sound/video needs a lot of CPU horsepower and RAM no matter what the OS is.

Pretty sure he's covered that. Working with some nerdy types. He's seeing if a) that mob offer him a FT job.. or, b) if he thinks that what he wants to do, rather than freelance/contract.

Adobe does not have Creative Cloud for Linux at all so if someone were wanting to do prepress they would have to use apps built for Linux, ie...GIMP, Inkscape, Scribus, etc...As far as I know there are no PDF editors on par with something like Pitstop. I think frailer was talking about his son's use which is not prepress but audio software.

I've tried many different kinds of linux and always come to the same conclusion. It sucks for general use and if you want the fancy GUI like Ubuntu has you won't be happy with an older underpowered machine. But if you need a web server Linux that would be my choice. Without the overhead of a GUI though.
Yep he's in the general area of sound, but also digital video/visuals, random generation linked to sound... all that stuff. He's heading towards coding towards the back end of this area, (I thought he'd want the creative mix, like he was involved in in a big install recently in Purchase, NY. But he doesn't like those extended onsite things too much. We think he's being a bit precious, but what would we know...

Son's letting Apple go. He's been talking to some other nerds in his digital graphics/audio installation team when he was in NY doing an install there in a large foyer, who are more up on that stuff than he was, and has already taken delivery of a Lenovo from a mob in Melbourne with a version of Ubuntu installed. He's gone to a Sony Android phone.
Thinking about it myself when the time comes.

Fujifilm XMF / Re: Font Embedding issues

Only brought all this in-house in '04, so late starters. Appears to me that we've gone from wrangling fonts in Quack, Indy, (I finally settled on Font Explorer, which I really like..hate Suitcase), fading to a sweet period when PDF workflows came in, through to Ad*be getting all Stasi about licensing again. Am I imagining this?
It's as though the change to APPE was rapid and they've only just put the police back in place properly.

Quote from: Slappy on March 25, 2019, 07:49:20 PMDoes your in-house RIP support any kind of color sampling by surface area? I've had some similar ghost colors in XMF, I'll preview Plates Output then use the eyedropper to drag across the whole page, if nothing shows up as a percentage of the offending Spot Color, I'll turn it off or convert to CMYK before it heads to plating.

If it does return a percentage of said color, then it's make selections by quadrant/grid until I find the damned color & then convert it anyway.

It had to go out before I could do this. I don't they've reached print time yet. I may try that in rendered view in XMF, switch off the others and should be able to marquee, as you say, 'areas', with the eyedropper~ink tool.

Resaving as a 'file rewrite' didn't shake it off. We (I asked that they be told in the other place's pp room), told them of the issue; hopefully they'll have listened and checked, but I don't have direct contact... (turf/control/personalities... ya know what I mean).

Adobe Acrobat / Sticky Spot referencing
March 25, 2019, 07:26:17 PM

Parent office dezinger peep's passed on an over 1GB PDF file for a new and well-known show about a well-known book series (Shhh)... In fr UK. For some unknown reason they have the Spot as 1255 (gold). We need to run/print 875.

OK, no es un problema... I run whatever's required... Change Specific Col ... whatever. But no matter what I do in the way of resaves/save as... it still references the unwanted 1255 in Output preview.

It's being printed on a larger press, so gotta send it out. Have been through all 48 pp looking for occurrences of the 1255. None.

All we can do is tell their pp that there's none present. It's 'ghost referencing', right?

Just heard of this today, I have used Markzware plugins a long time ago in Quark.
There is apparently a market for Indesign CS6 people who need to open Creative Cloud files...

Not getting any closer to Mojave than this right now.
(one of my favourite americana people.. she came to OZ, saw her live in a small venue, banging away on a baby grand and singing her heart out. Wonderful, and full of fun stories. One of our son's sound tech mates was doing the sound; it was perfect, and she told him so at the end...  ).

Quote from: mc hristel on December 06, 2018, 04:20:29 PMI can't speak for frailer, but for us the corporate office has us locked into accessing e-mail through a web client, and in particular Chrome (ugh I hate Chrome). We can't even get to the web without being logged in and authenticated which is a huge pain in the back side. At least in theory we can use the outlook app, but to set it up we need to go through IT. <sigh>

...our assumed, and implied, situation. Not sticking my neck out there. But I'll look at 'Sweep' tomorrow.

My compadre said he'd done all of that; restart everything in the chain, but ,... nup.
It seems to have been triggered by the prior plate output Errors.
I'll just wait and see if happens again, but not ideal.
