Adopted machine at the newest place & I've tried everything to eliminate the beach balls but it's pretty constant. Doesn't matter if I'm resizing a frame, checking a Link, just sitting here daring to LOOK at it - every 10-15 seconds hangs then it's back.

Tried all of the items from this old thread, to no avail. Actually, the only thing I haven't done is disable the Network because there's no way to reasonably work without it.

Specs:

L2 Cache (per Core): 256 KB

I was having issues with Creative Cloud trying to "activate" fonts in the background, it was giving me fits with the SBBD (spinning beach ball of doom).

Found a script to stop the background activities to stop, so far it seems to be working.

But if you did disable the Network and the spinning beach ball doesn't come up you would at least know it is something with the network or InDesign is phoning home to the Adobe HQ planet way too often...similar to David's problem/solution.

Quote1) Create an empty text file and save it with the name DisableAsyncExports.txt
2) Control+Click on the Adobe InDesign 2021.app file in your Applications folder and choose Show Package Contents
3) Move the text file from step 1 into Contents/MacOS/ so the full path to the file is now:
/Applications/Adobe InDesign 2021/Adobe InDesign 2021.app/Contents/MacOS/DisableAsyncExports.txt
I think the script I found did this for me, here's a link to the quote

I've noticed this behavior as well with the latest ID.

Thought it was helping - turns out, nah.

I'll try to the disconnecting network thing when I don't need any of all the other things depending on it & see what happens.

Other option...have you tried deleting InDesign preferences via "macOS: Shift+Option+Command+Control while starting InDesign"? It should prompt if you want to delete InDesign preferences (at least it used to).

Hmmmm, not yet. Need to find my Workspaces to backup first I suppose...

Well well well - points go to the Old Man Joe!

So far, so good, even if I did forget to backup my regular Prefs too... ::)
