I there a way in store front to set a Shipping cost per line item?  I know I can set up a Printing Option and set a dollar amount on that but when you get to the order page it then shows at the bottom of the page "Shipping and handling $0.00" down at the totals.  It also adds Tax charges to the Shipping fee and that's not something that is normally taxed.   Is the shipping by weight or by page a normal thing?

I found out where...  It's in the Quantity option under the Printing Options tab of the product template.   Go figure...  I expected it to be under Ordering Options or even pricing...  Not Printing Options.

So, y'all can disregard this message.

Kodak Systems / Setting an order limit in Storefront?
August 02, 2011, 11:05:46 AM

Is there a way to set a Minimum order quantity or change the order amounts to a pre-selected drop down box?

Something like the user can't order less than 50 pages of an item, or they have to select the amounts from a drop down( 100, 250, 500, 1000).

Kodak Systems / Re: Darwin 3.1

OK, I just got the Tutorial too...   Instead of clicking on the link to open the PDF up in the browser, right click on it and save it to the local HD.   That worked for both of the files.

Quote from: Joe on July 19, 2011, 03:58:40 PMI don't have Storefront but the Insite Administrators Guide does explain how to do that type of thing for example, for the upload form. You might see if they have an Administrator Guide for Storefront.

Well, I looked in the InSite Admin Guide but I did not see what you were talking about.   I was hopeful since the InSite PrePress Portal and Storefont should be using the same user accounts.   What page of the guide were you seeing that on?

I was able to get to the install apps and the Admin Guide...  The Tutorial never gave me the page.

Here is a shortened link to the install apps (Windows and Mac).

Has any one extended the user accounts in Storefront?  We would like to add a couple fields to the users for our reporting and management purposes.   Besides City and State we also need County, Division, Region, and a couple other fields.

I have to say that I am a bit disappointed that Kodak only included 1 Title field and 5 phone number fields.   I mean come on...  who uses a pager now days anyway?

Thanks for the offer but I have enough CSS experience that I'll be able to blow it up all by myself.   :cheesy:   I just need to know what I need to change to be able to add the CSS link to the site.

Kodak Systems / Adding CSS links into storefront
July 18, 2011, 03:08:01 PM

Is there a way to add a CSS link into store front so I can call it from the Login Panel, header and, Welcome block?  I really want to use CSS and not have to revert to tables to accomplish my task.

Kodak Systems / Darwin 3.1
July 13, 2011, 07:56:57 AM

I just got notice from Kodak that Darwin 3.1 has been released.  This version works with InDesign from CS5 so that is great for us.  It will not work with CS5.5 as that came out after Darwin 3.1 was in Beta.  He said that an update should be rolling out soon to resolve that issue.

It will be on eCentral in a couple days, or if you have a service agreement with Kodak you can contact the response center and they will send you a link to download it.

Quote from: Farabomb on July 01, 2011, 12:12:35 PMAbout the iMac HDDs they are the same as a generic one with the exception of a different connector AFAIK. I really don't think it's becasue of the form factor seeing as netbooks and tabs are smaller and a lot use standard hardware. I'd believe it's more of Apple keeping the brother down.

I think you will find that either the HDD or the Controller board has a temperature probe on it.  The system uses that to control the speed and timing of when the fans run.  Which is why you CAN replace your HDD in your computer but then the fans run at full speed (6,000 rpm) all the time.

Most of the smaller systems out there have some sort of fan and controllers as well. I have a fan in my MacBook Pro that comes and goes depending on how hot the system is, same with my wife's Windoze laptop.

As for the tablets like the iPad and the Andriod pads...  Most of them don't have hard drives as the storage is solid state and they don't even have much of that either. The processor in the new iPad is a 1Ghz Dual Core A5 which is a low power processor that contains both the CPU and the GPU. It will also control it's processing speed based on battery life. It's on a 533Mhz bus so everything in the iPad is running slower which draws less power and generates less heat. They use a LED back-lit LCD screen which draws little power and does not generate much heat at all. If you think about it, they don't have the same processing demands as a laptop or desktop machine. We don't run big applications, run databases, or may of the other things that we demand of our primary systems.

The same thing goes for other pads.  Like the new Samsung Galaxy 10.1 it is even thinner than the iPad.  It uses a newer faster processor, the NVIDA Tegra 2, which is toted as having a "Ultra-Low Power" GeForce GPU. (It can view and export HD Video).

On a side note, I do find it funny that Apple chose the A5 for the iPad 2 which was developed and produced by Samsung, but Samsung is using the Tegra 2. The Tegra 2 is a combination of the ARM Cortex-A9 4 Core Processor\CPU, a GeForce GPU from NVIDA, and a 1080p Video Playback Processor.

Ok...  Enough of that...  You just happen to have caught me right after doing some research on tablets.  :-)    (Looking into either getting an iPad or the Galaxy 10.1)

Anyhow...  If you do want to change your HDD out and not purchase it from Apple then there are some work arounds. There is software that will show you what the internal temperatures of your systems, and others to control the speeds of your fans. Here are a couple links that y'all might be interested in if you are looking to go down that path.

Quote from: Joe on June 30, 2011, 07:29:18 PMThe days of fixing your own Mac are coming to an end as Apple is doing everything in their power to keep the average Joe from getting in there.

Joe,

I don't think this is necessary true...  I don't think they are doing it just to keep us coming back to them for parts. Not that it's a bad deal for them if it does happen that way. But they are getting things so small and fast that they really have to manage the systems more than they ever have before.

With the hard drives spinning so fast and the processors running so fast and hot they really have to manage the heat in such a small case.  If they did not have all the temp connections to the HD, the processor, the case, and everything else then I bet the iMacs would drop like flies due to the heat. Or they would end up bigger and have fans that run all the time and you would end up thinking you are working in a server room with all the noise.

All though, if you do have to purchase a HD from Apple, it would have been nice for them to put a panel on the back so a person could upgrade the ram and replace the HDD yourself. But I guess that would have ruined the looks of the back of the computer when you see them on TV. Oh the choices they have to make to feed our habits and not give us too much freedom.

Quote from: gnubler on July 01, 2011, 06:13:37 AMWhen my iMac HD died last October it happened about 2 weeks before the 3 year AppleCare expired.

That *never* happens.

gnubler

I bought my MacBook Pro a few years back, it's a late 2008 model and I bought the 3 year apple care with it.  About a year and a half later the battery got to where it would only keep the laptop running about 5 minutes. I took it in and they replaced the battery with no questions. Receipt said $90.00, but they said that is for a Apple Care replacement.  If I had to purchase the battery myself it would be $130.00.  So your HD replacement would have probably cost you more than the $250 that you saw on your receipt.

As for having your HD die two weeks before Apple Care expired...  Good for you.  I had the same thing happen about a month ago.  All of a sudden my mouse quit working correctly.  It would stay "Clicked" like I was trying to drag and drop everything.  I did all the normal trouble shooting that I found on-line, including pulling the battery and using the computer while just being plugged in but nothing fixed it.  I figured that my Apple Care had expired but when I put my serial number into the support site at Apple.Com I discovered that I sill had about 3 weeks of coverage left.  I took it to the Apple Store and they replaced the entire top cover of the laptop since the mouse is integrated into the cover. I had mentioned that my battery was also dead and would not keep the computer going and they replaced it as well.  I figured they would only replace one battery in the life time of Apple Care so I was happy when he said they would replace it too.

It did take them about 4 days longer than they quoted though.  So, for a week I was stuck with just using my Dual G5 with a 17" and 20" monitor on it.  (That was a referb unit from a Academic Super Computer when I bought it 5 years ago.)

But all and all, I am still happy with the service and support I get from Apple.

most of their passwords are pretty stupid, they're left over and used for a lot of things (so the tech guys don't have to remember a lot of stuff).

The old Scitex passwords still work for anything Creo/Kodak, too.     ripro...

Yeah I tried that and the default Storefront user ID and password too.   I may just boot up Hydra and see what it tells me.  :-)
