Quote from: pspdfppdfxhd on March 13, 2024, 03:46:17 PMSoooo... i took a shot in the dark and contacted Xitron, the maker of our Harlequin CTP rip to see if the rip could rip up the jobs and and dump them into the Konicas somehow and they tell me it can be done. NOTE: I contacted their SALES department so all may be suspect. I will call them tomorrow. The harlequin rip is having no ripping issues with newer pdfs at this point. It is pretty up to date.
Here's a support article from Xitron's support forum. You could find other helpful articles there too.

Quote from: pspdfppdfxhd on March 06, 2024, 05:46:05 PMI thought i had posted this, but obviously not, but can't you type in the ip address of the epson in a browser and pickup a detailed analysis of jobs? That's if your Epson is hooked up by ip.
This is very intriguing to me. We have multiple Epsons. All hooked up by IP, but I've never seen anything on the printers web interface that would lead me to believe that they have a reporting feature.

Tell us more of great one.

I think DCurry was onto something here but I believe you need to take a step further by having the PlaceHolder field and the ImageName field for each month in there for each month. And if you need two, then you will need two columns for each month.

General Prepress / Re: Need a new Mac...help
December 01, 2023, 08:45:07 AM
I was shocked by getting a beefed up mini myself but they are working just fine. Although I remember saying the same thing when I first got my first iMac. It wasn't a tower, "professional" Mac. But haven't looked back. And now think the same about the mini/studio. We don't worry about color on screen too much. We proof it and know what moves we need to move from there.

The other thing we did for compatibility reasons, was to setup the old iMac either next to the operator or in a spot where they can remote into them if need be for the software they would not run on the new system. Since we are in a production environment, not everything gets updated right away. But there are times where the computer needs to be and we have to fight all the other issues for a bit. That's how we get around it. FYI.

Earlier this year we bought 2 new Mac Studio's (M1 Max with 64GB) and put 2-27" displays (not Apple) on them. Operators are happy. There are less pixels than the older 27" 5K iMacs than we used to have but it's still better than they had (iMac and a 22" secondary).

The whole switching of processors and having to try and decide which one reminds me of the old PowerPC days and also the switch to Intel. This seems to be way better. And yet still crazy to think that there are satellites still in space working with 68000 chips, which were in my first Mac.

Wonder if "Error Checking..." is the same thing you are looking for Tracy?

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Errant Object in Preview
September 12, 2023, 12:40:39 PM
Wondering if this is an Adobe issue with Illy or Indy and not Acrobat or Preview. Do the newer versions cause the issue where the older versions do not. Or is it a Intel vs M processor handling issue. Too many new hardware and software changes now that could be doing it. At least that is the way it seems to me. I have 2019 iMac with Illy 2021 still and mine outlines and minuses front just fine.

Maybe it's just time to get out of print. Walmart here I come. Wait, I've been in print, I already don't like people. Nevermind, I'm going to dig ditches.

It could be a RGB vs CMYK thing too.

I can fix most things but my boss has complained because I've been taking too much time on jobs. So, I've stopped fixing things.

Problems solved. :blind:

The last time I ran into something like that. I think I had to go back to the indd and print out a PS then distill it to a regular PDF and modded it from there. Of course the PS flattened everything. Sometimes it good to go old school with things.

Adobe Acrobat / Re: Recombining separated PDF's

Quote from: Joe on August 10, 2023, 01:09:33 PMI made a separated .ps file from ID last night to try it but it would not distill.
Well Joe. Thanks for making me try Distiller again and kill 30 minutes getting it to talk with Adobe again so I can run it. ;)

I found one minor thing that you might not have. We are running Kodak Prinergy and have for years so we have the Prinergy Rifiner.ppd when we select PostScript© File. Maybe that is the difference.

I have included my test InDesign and PS file in the Archive.zip. Incase you want to look at it. Also the PDF that I made.

And I threw in the Prinergy Refinder.ppd too, for testing. Which goes in the application folder for InDesign/Presets/PPDs. The PPDs folder you may need to create if it is not there. And this file should work both on Mac and PC.

Quote from: Joe on August 10, 2023, 09:36:19 AMjust curious, what program are they using to make the separated pdfs?
Curious about that too. I think you used to be able to makes seps from InDesign but you can't via export. If you have the Adobe PDF Printer on your system I think you could. But I don't have it so can't verify it.
Yes, Joe it can still be done. I/we still have a postscript printer option in InDesign just for this. As every once in a while we need to send seps out to a vendor or even more rare to a customer as they don't believe us about the spot color. And it still works great, except for the fact that you get a PS file that you have to run through Distiller to get a PDF. But at least it's doable.

CTP - CTF / Re: Magnus 800 plate scratches
February 22, 2023, 01:28:53 PM
We are not running Fuji, but Kodak. And had some issues when we first switched. We are the same with everyone knowing how to handle the plates correctly. We found that the processless plates are a little more sensitive. And we use auto loaders on the press, and those needed a good cleaning. But you may also need to have your laser power checked for your Magnus, the setting might be slightly off. Might need a fine adjustment for the plates.
