Sorry you got burned Tracy.
We used to outlaw that kinda thing, the stripper had to compose internegs if there were that many burns, not the platemaker.
I liked all that hand craft, not just opaquing.

Color keys can suck it, that damn processor knew when I was 10min over and wanted to go home and it would jam on me.
That proof was a great visual aid for tours and students though, really helps show the process (pun enjoyed)

After doing some screen printing for a local sports collectible shop and working at the copy center at the college bookstore, my first real printing job was hand burning plates.

Laying mask after mask and screen after screen, turning on the vacuum, closing the curtain and all that light exposure... ugh. I was burned out after a week or two. I got upgraded to typesetter and then to scanning artboards and vectorizing and coloring images with Adobe Streamline. That's the place where I got fired on day 89 for getting in a car accident.

I did like making the color keys, though.

my zen activity was cutting intricate rubylith masks under an eyeglass. some masks could take 3 days to complete, and you didn't know until the last one was exposed back through all the others whether you had it correct.

Quote from: Slappy on May 19, 2025, 10:59:26 AMOhhhhh, if ONLY that were the case! With a constantly moving schedule, they come & grab what they need, or take a whole cart if there's a bunch of plates for a job. Like this – we tag 'em with the Job # and hope they don't get scratched/bent if the job they need is at the bottom.

This is prob 200+ plates between the 2 carts. I ran 65+ this am and the other prep guy just loaded another 60 he'll burn through before shift is over. We're cookin' now!!!  ;D
We did it the exact same way. Pressroom was always so far behind we had plates stacked like that against every wall available around the plate room. When they needed a certain job they would come down with their plate cart and find the plates and load them up and take them to the press.

Quote from: Tracy on May 19, 2025, 08:51:47 AMInteresting do you plate in a certain order so the plates
the pressroom needs is on top?
I can see how this could be a problem
