Title: Explaining file types to Sales people
Post by: Grimace on March 08, 2013, 11:34:41 AM
I am trying to find a guide for the typical sales person that explains, in a way a sales person can understand, different file types and their uses.

Has anyone come across a good breakdown? My Googling isn't finding what I hoped to find.

Of course they will have to read and attempt to understand. No easy feat for sales people.

Really?! I gave up attempting to communicate with the tards in sales. I merely send them a pdf of our digital specs and tell them to forward it to the clients. Trying to explain anything digital to them usually results in their eyes glazing over and at the end of it all they usually say "I'm not sure what all of that means...". We have one that doesn't know how to enact an email attachment - keeps sending us reams of photocopies ffs!! :banghead:

I do the same, give them specs for a PDF. Anything else just leads to more trouble, which usually means
more work for me.

seems like any way you slice it, it's "TL;DR" and you get what you get.

Oh, yeah, I have a PDF with specs on it. They just don't know what all those funny letters refer to. And half the time or maybe all the time they don't send the PDF to clients.
When they do, it's mixed results. I've had a customer send our vector template back to us as a TIFF.  I asked for new art and they explained that was an approved format. It was on the list, near the bottom of course. I finally just told the sales person to ask for the native file, I finally got a Illy CS6 file :banghead:

I think the best breakdown I've been party to was about ten years ago at a Cracker Barrel in New Jersey.

The waitress took our orders and we didn't see her for about half an hour -- no drinks, nothing.

The place was crazy-busy, so we figured something was up.  Finally we flagged down another waitress and asked her where ours had disappeared to.

A few minutes later, an apologetic manager approached us and said that our waitress was in his office, having a nervous breakdown!

Needless to say, we did not pay for that meal...

Oh, wait -- wrong kind of breakdown??  :cheesy:

Cheers, John

Yep, living and working in Jersey can easily cause breakdowns.

The woman had one Friday and I can't say I blame her. Seems some piece of shit where she works decided to (guys, you may want to stop reading) mutilate a client's penis. This client has be targeted before, someone drew a swastika on his neck. Now seems they are escalating it. He required 7 stitches to close the 2 cuts. Who does shit like that?

I think there is openings in the food service area but you really don't want to work there. It's a historical institution that goes back centuries. I'm pretty sure the GF's cottage is cursed.

Of course becasue it's on prime real estate so the historical aspect means nothing to the ever advancing "progress", Never mind the best interest of the clients.

Actually, if you're into history and abandoned building and such it's great. They still have padded rooms that are no longer in use. It was a "home for wayward women" at one time. Back when they thought a orgasm was a horrible thing. If you had a "troubled" daughter, drop her off there and they would take her in. Might be part of the reason they want to close it. Seems it's really bad to look at history to see the mistakes that were made so we don't repeat them. Like closing centers for the mentally disabled and sending the ones you can't finding housing for out into the populace so they are no longer your problem.

Oh, wait...

I plan on taking a lot of photos before it's closed and knocked down for either a golf course or condos. Because we need more of them around here.

I still don't get where there are aliens, must've not been paying enough attention.

The first season was good about 3/4 way through, and then jumped the shark. Second season was vastly superior, but then kinda got lame at the end. The aliens are what I am referring to. Why? It just didn't fit.

Jessica Lange is definitely the best part of the show, although I did like James Cromwell quite a bit.

That's Zachary Quinto, same guy who was in Heroes before it went to hell too. I just got to the Christmas episode. Motherfuckin' Al Swearengen!!! I'll forgive a weird alien plot angle to see him do - anything.

Oh yeah, forgot about Quinto, he does have the playroom in the basement. Cromwell has the playroom in the Asylum hospital. Agreed, Al Swearengen was a great little addition to the show. Still hated the whole alien thing.

Quit it, we just finished watching the first season. The woman loved it, I really liked it but it did seem to have a lull somewhere. I did like how they pulled off the last episode.

Seeing where she works she's really interested in the second season. She was told by people she works with that it wasn't as good as the first season but I trust the opinion of the people here more than them. You guys have a mindset that's closer to ours than the people she works with.

You learn about the aliens pretty early on in the season, episode 1, if I remember right. I don't think we have spoiled anything for you, but if I did, I apologize.

I watched the whole season and don't remember any aliens, so that tells you how critical they are to the plot.

No worries guys, I'll be watching it probably tonight. It's a toss up between getting current on the walking dead or starting AHS season 2.

Is the young redheaded feather duster in the new one?

I"ll have to act surprised when it happens. Will end up with a little smirk and will get busted anyway.

Season 2 of AH was awesome - really different from the first season, and totally unique compared to anything else on TV. And, as always, superb acting by Jessica Lange.
