Quote from: Possum on May 23, 2017, 03:08:03 PMIt seems to be even worse on a cell phone. All I wanna do is play a little solitaire, but it's tied to ads. I snagged some free (not public) wi-fi, and kept getting ads telling me to push this button because I have a virus or my memory is full. Heck, I haven't used even five percent of my memory, and besides, I'm not as stupid as I look. But I can imagine the people who panic as soon as they see the word "virus."

These guys are no better than the ones calling me telling me my Windows computer is calling them for help, when I've never owned a Windows.

This is a new thing a lot of "marketing guys are pushing" it's location based advertising with a geofence (defined area of space). When you connect to their wifi they can attempt to "side load" and app..i.e not through an app store. Most of it is just annoying ads from car companies, but some of it can be real nasty.

Thanks for the heads up santa. I almost never hook up to the "free WiFi" because I know the shit they pull. I even avoid hotel WiFi because I don't trust it. I've had unlimited data since verizon first offered it way back when. I knew how things were progressing. I knew smartphones were going to be big and data was going to cost.

Thats the best practice...have you ever read the terms and conditions on those splash screens before you connect to "free wifi."
NSA treats your privacy better than what those terms say :sarcasm:

I wouldn't use public wi-fi either. Mine's at home, just don't know how long I'll have it. It's unreal how many ads tell you something's wrong with the phone. It's also scary to think how many people will fall for that.

My guess is 98.7%.

I'm thinking it might be higher. We're all aware of what happened in the last election. Society has gone dumb.

You're probably right. I was just trying to be more positive today than usual. ;D

I'm very positive.

Positive most everyone is getting dumber.

It's so cute to see both sides tearing at each other, flinging shit and so forth not realizing the totally obvious fact that both sides are one in the same. They are not out for anyone's best interest, only their continued lavish lifestyle provided by those that are screaming at each other defending their "side". Purge those fuckers, banish the fanatics on the left and right and maybe the humans left might be able to have a discussion and work some shit out.

I think we'd all do a fine job of running the country.

The thing is the bar has dropped so low that it's like getting a gold in the Special Olympics.
