this is just for carrier unlocks anyway, you can still jailbreak/hack the phone to your hearts content.

Confused. So isn't that what will be illegal as of Saturday? (Not that it will really stop anyone)

root/jailbreak = you own it but they own you. Can't stick a different carrier's sim in

carrier unlock = you can use another sim.

This fails the smell test though. T-Mobile and Simple Mobile use the same network. Simple mobile allows use of a t-mobile phone on their network. Will it work without unlock? Probably - because the network setup is identical, down to the APNs you enter to get connected.

Sprint and Boost are the same network, not sure how that plays out.
