I just wanted to say something that would break the ice.

Hey, there had to be at least one bindery thread.

I'm sure our bindery guy would be on the forums, but I disabled internet browser on the
computer in that area. You know how it goes... idle hands, especially idle bindery hands...

delooch

no internet access??  :o

ever lookup reverse telecommuting on urban dictionary??

Keeping the bindery thread going: at the last place I worked, they didnt allow anyone to sit down in bindery (unless you were running a punch). They swore you worked/collated faster standing up.. I thought they were crazy, but its true..

Not in bindery. It causes too many problems that I have to fix. Been there,
done that. Screw 'em.

Yup. I have a machine set up just for that for them, not in bindery though.
Linux box, baby! They can like it or lump it.

Our bindery would only use a computer if it was behind their building in the smoking area. That, and lacking opposing digits makes it hard to use a mouse.

Our bindery has requested a computer and the software to print skid tags. They make them all out by hand right now and there is a shit-load of them that takes a lot of people a lot of time to do. Now I just have to make FileMaker do this and they'll be all set. I think I might disable DNS on it so they can't get to the internet. It's a Windows XP PC and I'd imagine it would be virus and spyware infected in about the first 8 minutes of use by them.

That's what happened here. I've also caught a co-worker in the last year surfing the net
on our NT platemaker rip running IE 5  :o

I point the non-internet boxes at a bum proxie server. They haven't caught onto it yet  ;)

Totally! I caught someone browsing on my Xitron box one day. There is now a note taped to the screen with a warning of the wrath of the prepress wookie! ... "because droids don't tear peoples arms out when they loose"

Same thing on our CTP PC but we have to keep it internet enabled for remote access by support. Took me 3 fricking months to rid it of spyware and popups (to porn sites but everyone says they never used IE at all...liars!!!)! It's now a fireable offense if caught web serving on that PC.

I lock the door to prepress for that very reason...     they found some male on male porn on the "sales" PC AND some printed out lasers in the desk when they went to clean the office for a new rep..   it was the bindery guys at night going  into the office..   Prepress is now deadbolted..   homey, dont play that shit.  :D

Damn PC's!! They do the same thing here. On their own they go out, find porn, get infected, then
won't run right, all on their own. Nobody here has ever gone anywhere on the internet that would
give you a virus   ::)

Same here, we say surf on one of the macs, "surfing on this PC is a fireable offense"
