Pardon me, if this sounds as odd to you as it does to me.
A new client wants us to supply press ready pdfs for flyers and posters with icc profiles and setting appropriate for each press.
We are not allowed to contact these printers directly as we are to be invisible in this production process. Fine, What ever...
Now they tell me that the specs are (for one of them)
"PDF x1 SWOP for Heatset CMYK web press"
This does not specif (to me) what profile they want.
Frankly, I wonder why the printer isn't insisting on applying the profile themselves since they know their press conditions.
Googling this did not give me clarity so what do you guys think?
PDF/X-1a:2001 does use a SWOP profile. (Screenshot from InDesign export settings.)
People that have really old rips or that are just stupid still want files like these.
Newer APPE workflows won't even accept PDF 1.3...
Maybe they save them to .ps to send to a Harlequin. I didn't think people still ran film?

I do give a rats ass what the printer wants or why, I am going to be responsible for giving them what they think they are asking for.

Yeah there aren't any canned Adobe PDF job options like that. Agreed, tell them to send you their job options they are using.

Not sure if he's still around or not, but Delooch may know. There's a real life guy in Fresno named Vahe (pronounced Vah-hey) that only does film stuff. I don't know if Vahe is his first or last name. He calls everybody, "Hoss," like he's one of the Cartwrights, except I think he's Armenian.
[edit] His shop used to be downtown. I googled him. Looks like he moved North and "expanded." No website.
