Kodak Systems / Kodak Ink Eater Mark

Anyone have any real world experience with this?

We have a project it may help us on and Kodak's help is vague.

Thanks in advance!

Random Technology / Manroland PECOM Question
August 11, 2022, 11:42:08 AM
Hello,
We have a Manroland Lithoman, been running great for 5 or so years. One sticking point is the CIP Data we send to the press, the files are huge! When the techs were here installing the press, they were not much help but we got it figured out but the resolution of what we send is 1600 dpi, huge files. Our other presses all take 72 dpi data.

Anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks,

John

General Prepress / Marks to lighten the mood
March 29, 2022, 08:10:01 AM
Do you ever change marks to just have fun with it?

Years ago we had to add marks so plates were loaded into the bender the correct way. We decided to have a little fun with it.

Bender points the way into the bender.

Hello,
I seem to be having a brain fart, it it possible to write a tiled PDF of impositions out of prinergy?

We have a new Fiery Proofer driver and have replaced kps.

We only have a 24" proofer but impostions can be 74" wide by 45.5" tall.

Thanks,

John

Hello,
We upgraded this week to Prinergy and Insite 8. No major problems but one hiccup was from something I missed and I wanted to share.

If using MatchPrint Virtual with Insite and/or PressProof and you have created custom color profiles for your printing conditions you need to open each one in Color Target Manager and hit "Update". If not, your colors will not match.

We are setting up a new press and we are having problems getting the ppf file configured properly for the Pecom system.

The file comes over and works but the name is the sig ID and sig number from preps but I wanted to use a custom config and add the job name as well.

What the Pecom system names the files matches the CIP3AdmJobName and when I do the config file, to what I want, it does not change at all.

Kodak Preps / Copying from One run to another
October 28, 2016, 03:19:37 PM
Hello guys,
I have a crazy complex gang template and I normally set these up as multi webs. We got a new press  and some versions will be run on two different presses. I have everything built for each individual press but I have a couple of templates where I need to merge and I don't want to buld from scratch.

Is it possible to copy press run 2 into press run 1 and make it web 3?

BTW, I am in Preps 7 and am still somewhat green. It this was 5 it would be a no brainer.

Thanks so much,

John Stewart

I see from another thread that several of you have upgraded to Prinergy 7.5. Has the functionality been fixed for scaling when centering pages?

Thanks and have a great weekend!

Kodak Systems / Rule to process pages
October 16, 2015, 01:05:36 PM
Hello,

We are upgrading to Insite 7 from 6.5 next month and was hoping someone with the htlm5 uploader would mind testing this rule for me. Since we are making such a huge leap, I do not have the html5 uploader.

We use a rule to process our pages, we do a first refine and then a second refine. We do this because we GCR the pages on the second refine. With the Java uploader, this works great. With Flash it is a mess if multiple files are uploaded, it tries to process them multiple times and they seem to be in a loop.

I am also posting this to GUA Forums/Rules Exchange

Thank you in advance!

CMS - Proofing - Printers / Soft proofing accuracy
June 11, 2014, 09:35:35 AM
We are currently using Kodak PressProof at press side for our 3 presses. Everyone is happy with the results 99% of the time. The color is fairly close. The problem comes up the other 1% when it is a higher end job with a press check. The monitors seem to have a slight cast in the paper white, some see it as a red cast, others just slightly dark.

Coated #5 is fine, #3 and #1 are the problems.

We have tried to adjust the white point and turn up the luminance but it has not solved the problem.

The monitors are never cleaned properly and that is not helping.

Our hard proofs are a much closer match and these use the same destination ICC profile.

Has anyone else had any similar problems?

When we first went to press proof, we had Apple 30" displays. The press room said these were much better than any thing we have had since.

Thanks for reading and I appreciate any thoughts to get us in the right direction.

Kodak Preps / Preps 6 - A couple of questions
May 02, 2014, 12:36:00 PM
Hi guys, I am playing around and hope to finally join the 20th century. I have been messing with preps 6 (we have Prinergy 5.3) and have a couple of questions.

Can I change my templates so that the name of the Prinergy Job is on the sigs? In Preps 5 we had $JOBNAME and it worked. Does it need to be $[JOBNAME]?

I see there is a secondary shingle, vertical. Is this for nesting multiple webs? This is a problem we are having with some stocks, like 2 webs on 80# coated stock.

Thanks for reading,

Tips & Tricks / Mass Preps Template Editing
November 13, 2013, 02:51:04 PM
I recently found that when switching over to Preps 6 from 5 a text mark we use no longer works as we need it to. A Mistake by me, I put $JOBNAME instead of $[JOBNAME].

I found that I can open the preps template file in TextEdit and do a find and replace to replace all instances of this text.

Save the document, reopen in preps and all is fixed.

Is anyone using this on many jobs?

We use this on quite a few projects and it seems to work poorly. Even when it does work, the proofs on Insite look terrible.

Many of our jobs end up having a black plate change on the back cover, with and without mailing  indicia.

Insite makes all pages appear as if they have a plate change, even when they don't. It ends up confusing the customer.

I was hoping to hear some thoughts from others that use this as well.

Thanks,

August 21, 2012, 01:44:53 PM
Hello guys, it's been a while. Is anyone running Energy Elite plates? We will be testing some in the next few weeks for a  possible conversion to these from Amigo TS. We run 2 Avalon vlfs and will be converting one to run the Energy Elites.Anything we should be on the watch for?

General Prepress / Plate buggy/cart/truck
December 16, 2010, 11:08:59 AM
Does anyone know of a good vendor or manufacturer of a plate moving cart?

We currently have old wooden carts that are in constant need of repair. We will be running about 7500 plates per month and need to take them about 50-75 yards to the press room. Hopefully in a few years they will be building a new office building with a new prepress that will be right next to the press room.

Thanks,

John

Kodak Preps / Section Templates and Sig IDs
April 29, 2010, 08:40:14 AM
I am having trouble with Sig IDs in a template with 2 sections. Section one mark comes out fine but section 2 does not. I am restricting the mark to each section but both still say the lower Sig number. For example  Section 1 is Sig 2 and Section 2 is Sig 7 both say Sig 2.

I also have a collation mark set the same way it is comes out perfect.

Thank you,

John

Kodak Systems / Insite Arrange Pages
March 03, 2010, 04:14:51 PM
We have a PDF layering job (black plate change on cover) that will not allow the customer to arrange pages. I am thinking that this is a safety feature with the layering. Has anyone come across this or am I mistaken? Insite's help was too vague.

Thanks for your help!!!
