Hi. I am a long time lurker both here & at PPF.
Thanks to the regular posters Ive picked up lots of useful tips over the years.
Just wondering if there is a way to export pdfs from Indesign & Illustrator
and scale them at the same time.
at the moment we either scale the whole document, which sometimes
does weird things to text boxes & line breaks,
or we print to postscript at a new size.
Thanks.

Hiya.

Don't know a way to do it on export.

If there is a way, someone here will know it & we'll both learn.

Here we always make "fullsize" pdfs, so if i need to make a proof of a billboard or tallwall to fit a proofer, i place & scale the pdf in an InD doc to desired output size.

Good bad or ugly, i haven't been fired for doing that.

Yet. The night's still young.

yeah if you "print" to pdf in indy under setup you have the scaling option, and under general in illy you have the same option

Man This place is amazing. I'd have been happy with a reply in the next week.

So if I use the "print" in indy or illy & then tell it to save as pdf
 wont it flatten the pdfs?

I want to keep my transparency live.

Thanks.

It does however appear that if I export a pdf from indy & then
place that pdf back into indy, I can scale it however I want and
still retain the transparency on re exporting it. Thanks Dudley.
I wonder what it does to the resolution?
Just off to do a few tests
Cheers guys.

ok well if you want to keep it live, export from indy as pdf 1.4 or greater - now the cool bit - you can draw a box in illy and have the new pdf place to scale straight off

or

you can place indesign files straight in there - scale and pdf out (missin out the pdf in the middle)

have a look at this place - superb

The res should be fine, standing pat at the settings you've established (resample to X images above Y).

Don't know about live transparency. We usually kill it at the earliest opportunity.

Cheers back at ya.

You can also resize it after creating the PDF with Pistop if you have it.
