Concentric Screening - Metallic Ink
« on: March 09, 2010, 01:36:01 PM »
We have a new item that prints with screens of PMS 8602 - some are set to around 90%. We are sheetfed - printing on SBS.

I am trying to determine if we would be better off to just run as our normal Paragon Organic screen - to allow our press operators to have more control - or would concentric screening give more consistent result.

How much would you cut back the screen if running concentric?

Sorry if my reply is off the mark, but it occurs to me that screening the metallic @ 90% will take away a lot of the metallic sheen, sometimes I question sales/CSR/client on this issue and see if they want a solid or change to a non-metallic ink.

The issue is that the customer is using varying shades of the metallic. Solid - with a logo at 90%, other areas at 75% etc. I agree that the look gets less metallic as the coverage is less.

we never tested the concentric screening with metallic inks, not sure if it would work to your advantage or not.
I would vote for more control, metallics can go wonky pretty quick (depending on the stock, of course).
Unless you want or need to spend some time testing.

Won't that 90 end up 100?

Yep. But the customer is always right.
